Michael Hlista
Backend Software Engineer (Elixir)
Michael Hlista works on our Elixir Backend GraphQL API. As a Backend Elixir Developer with an interest in writing scalable software, Michael is helping modernize and prepare for the future scale of Requis technology.
One of Michael’s main technical passions is building scalable software in Elixir. He enjoys problem solving in Elixir’s functional paradigm and actor based concurrency model. Michael enjoys learning about how Elixir and Erlang work under the hood and has given presentations to the Requis Dev Team on how the BEAM VM schedules processes across multiple cores.
As a key member of the backend team, Michael interacts regularly with the Sr Elixir Architect and Lead, as well as syncing with the Front End Devs to build out the GraphQL API for their needs. He has been leading our Search and Directory Modules on the Backend.
Before joining Requis, Michael completed a Computer Science Degree at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. While studying at Purdue, Michael developed cancer and was able to overcome it through determination and personal growth.
During his free time, Michael enjoys driving around Indiana or up to nearby Chicago to get deep dish pizza. His favorite deep dish pizza places are Pequods, Lou Malnatis, and Gino’s East.
He also loves video games and has more than 18 years of experience playing World of Warcraft, where he plays a Night Elf Mage named Mortim. He’s also working on his own text based MMO game written in Elixir.
